It is a sad today that we wake up to the knowledge that another amazing creative artist has passed away but leaves an amazing legacy which will live on through his songs and lyrics.

So what does this have to do with you, the small business owner?  The person who strives every day to create business growth while remaining the Authentic You.

Well, it has everything to do with you.  You, believe it or not, have a lot in common with him.

Prince was himself!  He created something bigger than himself but at the same time remained true to himself.  This is #1 that you have in common with him.

In business, and as a business owner, you are you and people do business with you.

But #2, we all realise as time moves forward in our business, that we need to be more creative, more energised and more giving to ensure our business does continue to grow.  This is what most of us are doing.

So let’s compare:

Prince : American singer, Songwriter, Multi-instrumentalist, Record Producer, and Actor

You: Business owner, Networker, Information provider, Speaker, Multi-tasker and Leader

You take on a variety of different roles, some you do well – some you wish you did better, but you are always seeing the bigger picture.

I didn’t know Prince but after following his career through the 80’s and beyond, he created the life he wanted and made the most of everything he did and accomplished.  He left a legacy behind for us all of us to enjoy.

I don’t know about you, but I would love to have even a small slice of this and I know that any of us in our own lives and businesses can achieve just this small slice.

What you have to remember is to be creative with your business, if it isn’t working – change something.

Do you remember the vision you had when you first started your business?  Is it ever-expanding?

If you feel that you need to grow and add some staff but do not have the funds, ask for help – get a loan, crowdfund, share your skills with another business owner.

Always remember though, be you.  Be true to who you are and why you started your business in the first place.  People do business with people – a common phrase used throughout the business community – because it’s true.

So, it doesn’t matter if you are born to be a celebrity or a business owner (or both), you can certainly make a difference in someone else’s life, so don’t sit back – make it HAPPEN!

I will always enjoy the music and talents created by Prince, just the same as I am always influenced and empowered by other business owners around me.
