Well in our lives and in our business we do need to keep up with the changes which surround us from social media to new laws, however when something is working – why change it?

Remember when you start in a business it can take a lot of momentum to pick up new business and sometimes it can feel like you will never make it! But then the day arrives when you start a new client job, you finish it and receive a wonderful testimonial and you realise that it is YOU that the client likes to work with and why they will refer you to others.

Then as your business grows, you do need to look around you and “keep up with the Jones'” so to speak, but that is only in terms of making sure you are as visible as your competitors. What it doesn’t mean is to lose the YOU in your business!

What you have that your competitors don’t have is your personality, your expertise and experiences – something that no-one can or does have. So, whatever else happens, knowing that you are keeping your brand, your WOW and your personality in tact whilst expanding the wider audience for your business, has to be paramount.

So, why did I title this blog post “What’s wrong with the old Bob the Builder?”

Well, to be quite honest I am one of the Mums that asks the question, why change something which has been working for so long? Why change it just because other animinated children’s programs have progressed to different technology.

The voice behind Bob and Wendy and the characters, the entire feel and outlay of the program is what has had children for years watching. My oldest son grew up with the old Bob and then my youngest and others in their age groups, loving the bright colours, the story lines and the general ease of the program.

The same with your business which should remain YOU which is the core of your business, by changing the entire core of the Bob the Builder program, thousands of loyal Bob fans will now be moving their children to other children’s programs as the entire fun and feel of the original Bob and Wendy has now been lost and taken away.

In short, don’t change – don’t become something you are not. If you do then all of the hard work put into your business will be for nothing as your clients and customers will start looking elsewhere because YOU will no longer be the reason they came to you in the first place.

Have you been thinking of changing the essence of your business?

Please let me know. Would love to hear from you.
